We got Otis on March 16, 2003. He had been a stray, then in a Humane Society shelter in southern Indiana and then at Central Indiana Lab Rescue & Adoption. Somewhere in there, a vet thought he was about 3. The first time we took him to our vet, he figured that was about right and put his birthdate in his chart as January 1, 2000. It hasn't been questioned or revisited until now
He had his annual check-up last night and the vet said "you know, I think he's older than we originally thought." He said the clouding in his eyes he doesn't typically see till around 8.
So, probably about 8 instead of 6-7'ish. It doesn't sound like much, but it feels like a lot. I mean, we just lost a year off his life with no time passing.
That is a lot. I know it'd make me feel very sad to find that Nellie had less than I thought. Otis needs lots more lovin now- if that's possible.
Awww, man. I can't believe how quickly each year goes by, and that's not fair that you lost one. I'll bet Otis is grateful that he's having all these years with your family, though, instead of stuck in a shelter.

Oh my. I bet you kind of feel ripped off. We can never have enough time with our loved ones, and it really seems like our pets get the short end of the stick since their lives or so short anyway. I am sorry, wish I could give you back that year. But at least you have several years yet. Who knows, Otis may surprise everyone and live to the ripe old age of 20.
Awwww, I'm sorry

Awwww... I'd be bummed too.
I know what you mean. You hate to give up a whole year when they spend so few with us anyway!
