DefaultPeanut Butter Dog Treats Recipe (Sarah!!)

I posted in O&E a couple days ago about how I made PB biscuits for the dogs and Sarah asked for the recipe.

I've tried 10+ different recipes for PB dog treats and this is my favorite (and Abbey's, too!). The rest of them just never get hard enough or are too poofy.

    Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
    1/2 cup all-purpose (white) flour
    1/2 cup cornmeal
    1/2 cup rolled oats
    1/2 cup water
1/2 cup oil (I've used canola and vegetable oil with no problem)
    2 eggs, slightly beaten
    3 Tablespoons peanut butter
    2 Tablespoons vanilla extract

Directions: Combine both flours, cornmeal and oats. Stir. Make a hole in the center of the dry ingredients and add everything else. Mix everything together. (I normally use my stand mixer or my hands). Roll out to 1/4" thick. Cook at 350F for 20-25 minutes. Let them dry out in the oven overnight.

For all of you who use metric, I found this site which might help you convert easily. http://allrecipes.com/HowTo/Cup-to-G...ns/Detail.aspx

What they should look like: (this is a double batch)

Thank you for this! A quick and dumb question....do you let the oven cool off before sticking them back in to dry out?

Thanks for sharing! My stepmom makes some very similar to this. I might have to give them a try this weekend!

Nope, I just turn it off and leave them in there, after I check on them of course. It depends on your oven though. I had to try it a couple of times to get the timing right. Mine is a little off, so I have to cook them for 25 min and then leave them in there. If your oven is pretty new (mine's not), you could probably do 20 mins and leave them in when you turn it off.

I just like to have them more crunchy. If they aren't cooked enough, they will still be kind of soft in the middle.

Let me know if any of you make them. Abbey goes NUTS for them. Her eyes just about pop out of her head when she gets a whiff of them.

Thanks for the recipe! I'll have to give them a try.

Lexi loves, LOVES LOVES peanut butter, so I some how believe they'll be a huge hit.

I've use to use this recipe before a lot and my dogs loved them. Gryph and Cinder would drool by the stove while they baked. They did smell good.
