I posted last week about my friend's Dane, Ogie with bone cancer. Ogie broke the leg playing w/his neighborhood friend. I'm so heartbroken. I loved Ogie, I'm more heartbroken for my friend. He was my friend's life, they never had children Ogie was their baby boy. We spent the weekend at camp. Ogie just wasn't himself. He was one of the most tolerant dogs I've ever met, Autumn literally would hang from his ears when she was a puppy he never even acted annoyed. This weekend Gunny and Autumn were wrestling and Gunny accidently backed into Ogie, he growled. Ogie's never growled at anything or anyone. My friend had him x-rayed before we left on Friday. Her vet said it was an old break, she was confused but assumed that meant the break was healed. Still something didn't sit right with her, it's so true how we know our dogs, so she sent the x-ray to his specialist. The specialist wasn't in until yesterday. She called him and he told her he didn't understand how her vet determined it was an old break. He told her Ogie's leg was broken and he had to be in a lot of pain. He told her Ogie was hiding the pain from them, dogs do that. She said "I guess we need to make a decision quickly" and the specialist told her it was the humane thing to do. Ogie had stopped eating a few days ago, I managed to get some salami in him but he's been barely interested in food. My friend was so brave and selfless. Her and her husband talked it over and decided Ogie's loved them so much these last 2 1/2 years they wouldn't/couldn't let him suffer one more minute. His cancer is a very aggressive form and with the break they couldn't bare thinking of him in pain. They drove him to the vet and stayed with him as he crossed the bridge.
This is Ogie last year, he love kids. Connor taught him how to play tag. Og never really understood who was it, he'd just tag a kid with his nose and run like heck the other way.
Tears just won't stop as I look at these. He was so sick and in so much pain yet he tried so hard to play with Gunny. Gunny settled for a nap and Autumn stayed away it was like she knew.
Run free Ogie my life is better because you were in it.
Damn! So sad.
