Why does Jasper wait until Samson has finished his food before starting his own ( 90% of the time anyway ) ??
Keeping a look out for predators ?
Samson has been known to finish his own food and then start with Jasper's food.
Jasper supplements his diet with stolen cat food. I keep trying different ways of stopping this but haven't succeeded so far.
Maybe a respect thing? Maybe Jasper sees Samson as the leader so he eats first and then Jasper accepts that when Samson is finished what is left must be ok for him to eat. He might not realise that they both have their own food so he waits until Samson is finished then has the rest.
Just a thought though, i am no expert!!!! ???
Sounds like a respect thing, as Bobbiesocks said.
Two dogs that I look after do the exact same thing. Sammy, who is the oldest, always eats first and Bruce, the youngest, always starts afterwards even if the bowls are put down at the same time. Sam is a Heinz 57 and Bruce is a Lab. Sammy is definitely top dog.
Naturally, mine don't do this. They all scarf their food down in about 00.2 seconds flat. :
Well what you both say would be more believable if I hadn't had to have Jasper "fixed" to stop his aggression towards Samson which was an Alpha dispute.
They are fine now of course, but Jasper will still push in front of Samson si I discounted respect !
Any other ideas ??
