I don't post often, but I do find much beneficial information here, such as the household medicine for pets.
I have a 3yo cf, 73lbs, and she has the worst feet. We live in florida, it is dry and I know our yard just had cinch bugs.
I feel awful for Abby, I wipe her feet with feet cleaner pads from the store when we come in (even if only to pee) and we spray them with an oatmeal spray to help. These aren't working right now, we need a good rain.
In the mean time, the list I got off here said I could give her Benadryl up to 2 mg per pound every 8 hrs.
My question....which kind of Benadryl? how long can I give it to her?
I am so worried I will do something wrong to put her in danger...please help and any other ideas would be appreciated.....she licks alot so anything she can't ingest is out.
Due to allergies, I also give one of my labs Benadryl. The vet has recommended 75 mg. twice a day. He is 77 lbs. and doing fine on only 2 capsules (50 mg) a day. I have seen great improvement, he has stopped biting his feet and licking his paws. I would have upped the dosage had it been necessary and will continue to monitor him and of course raise the dosage if necessary.
Good luck, hope this helps.
Thanks...how long has he been taking the medicine?
Do you prefer capsules or liquid?
Child or adult?
I am a worry wart!
I use the regular (adult) 25mg tablets. VERY IMPORTANT - make sure its plain Benedryl - not the sinus kind with psudafed in it or anything else for that matter
yes just the Benedryl Allergy not the decongestant or any of the others. the general rule is 1mg/lb of body weight. If less works that's great. I don't think there is a time limit to using it that I've been told.
I concur: plain benedryl, nothing else added, 75 mg (3 pills).
I'm Jenn. Keeper of two labs in my home and one forever in my heart.
Throw the ball, damn it!
I've been giving the Benadryl for about 4 weeks now, it took only a few days for me to see a difference. Like I said, my vet recommended 75 mg twice a day....we've been doing fine on just 50 mg a day. I give the capsules mixed in with dinner.
