Spring is here, and with that my backyard is full of mud caused by my lab constantly walking the same path around the fence perimeter. He is routinely coming in the house with his paws caked full of mud and then I have to try to wrestle him at the door to clean them off with a towel.
I have seen some absorbent doormats designed to clean wet/muddy paws, but they all seem to be designed for indoor use. Unfortunately, I have a tight space where my dog comes in the house and there isn't enough room under the door for anything but the thinnest of doormats. That is why I am looking for an outdoor mat to put outside the backdoor on my deck. Can anyone recommend something for that purpose that will work outdoors?
I've never seen such a mat but what does work is any small plastic tub; I've used an old ice cube holder or a bed pan, do one foot at a time and then towel dry, yes your dog has to get used to the procedure but with some patience from both of you it works well.
LOL, if you can teach him to wipe his feet on the mat then you can teach him to put up with towel cleaning his feet. I do put a towel on the floor just Inside the door where Mr Muddy Feet must STAY till I get to his feet with another towel. Muddy feet reprieve for us this morning, cold and 10cm of new snow.
