DefaultDESPERATE TO SAVE OUR DOG'S LIFE!!!

Looking for advise and/or help on bacterial infections. Our dog had a common TPLO in October and contracted a bacterial infection in his surgical site, called Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. His leg was extremely concerning to us the day we arrived for discharge. So, there is no doubt the pseudomonas was a hospital acquired infection. He's been on antibiotics for almost 2 months. Approximately 1 month after his TPLO, it was discovered that he had a fractured fibula head in the same leg and would need corrective surgery to fix. This was performed in December.

He has recently began having serious kidney issues and is being treated by an internal medicine specialist. We learned this evening that his urine sample was cultured and came back positive for Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Pseudintermedius (MRSP).

Desperately searching for information on these 2 bacteria's. How, if any, do these two correlate with one another? And could the renal failure be a result from these bacteria. He currently has the plate from the TPLO and an external fixator (from the fractured fibula head) in his leg... Which are making me think are only harmful at this point. This sweet dog means soooooo much to our family and I'm afraid to not give him every opportunity possible to pull through this. But I'm very nervous this isn't going to turn out good. PLEASE HELP!!

*Also, just out of curiosity---- is there a chance the fractured fibula head could have occurred during the TPLO surgery??

We aren't vets here. If you aren't comfortable w/ your vet, you really need to seek a 2nd opinion. Best of luck to you and your pup!!! Anne

Would you mind telling me what the forum is for then? Even if you are not a vet perhaps you've had this same experience with your precious dog. Was just hoping that maybe someone could offer some advice or experience, before we lost our loved one --- but none of this really matters because you are not a vet & we lost our dog last night. But thank you for your help! Take care
