    DefaultHelp with puppies head

I am going to post some pictures of my now 5 month old yellow labrador. He is growing up so fast! About a week and a half ago I noticed when looking at him from certain angles the area which would be his forehead on a dog looks a little swollen. It does not bother him at all when I touch the area and it is not hard like a bump would feel. It has not gotten bigger and it looks symmetrical. I was thinking it just may be how the head is developing as he is getting bigger every day. The last trip to the vet he weighed in at 42 lbs and he was 4 1/2 months at that visit. I am probably paranoid but just wanted to see what someone else thought since there are a lot of breeders on this site and have seen many puppies growing up. My last Lab puppy was when I was growing up and it is hard to remember what she looked like at this stage of development. Any feedback would be great! I hope the pics help hard to get him to pose for a good pic he always turns right at the last moment Lol.

Look up Occipital bump. In many cases, the bump will grow and then the back skull will flatten as it become more broad.

I did research that and yes I see that it is normal and is the bone at back of the head. I am talking about an area in the front of his head that looks like swelling or fluid. Maybe that is just normal. It just has gotten more pronounced in the last couple of weeks.

Hydrocephalus? I would think though that your vet would immediately recognize this.

The vet has not taken a look at it. When the puppy was last there he got a shot for rattlesnake bites. He goes back for the booster on march 15th. The bump was not there and the assistant administered the shot.

I see it most in the third photograph and I would get it checked out. Any swelling could be the beginning of an infection from a puncture wound that you may have missed. Although I check our cats regularly for them you'd be surprised how many times the first sign of a wound is the swelling that comes with an infection.

He was at the vet yesterday for his booster shot for rattlesnake bite protection. His head is fine! It is his skull growing. It is now bone so hope he will have a nice big blocky head. I will attatch two pics of his dad. I hope he will grow to look like him.
