Does he normally get very much time to interact with other people and other dogs? Sounds like he may need some socialization.

how much socialization has he had in the 4 months you had him?

It may just have been because he was picked up and then someone pet him with gloves/winter clothes on while he was being held and unable to move. It's a very intimidating position for a dog to be in and then have a stranger force themselves on them.

He MAY be going thru a fear phase, in which case you want to do some desensitization. Honestly i would call it fear more than aggression. Desensitization means you have to make the scrazy thing less scary by pairing it with a fun, yummy, happy thing.

I would recommend talking to a trainer (a non-force based trainer) who can help you in person as it's tricky to explain online and your timing has to be properly.

In addition to the questions asked above, how much do you know about his parents and background? Is he a purebred Labrador?
I agree, you need a good trainer to observe this pup's actions.
