    DefaultQuestion about registering microchip

My 15 week old chocolate lab was microchipped when I purchased her from the breeder. I was given the microchip number and a Home Again registration form to register the microchip. I still havent registered it and its because whenever I go to the HomeAgain site it seems like there is no way to just register for microchip once. They make you check off a box that says you authorize them to bill you yearly. I've heard that there's really no reason to have a yearly membership. I thought once you get your info into the microchip database that its there to stay? I can see paying to update it however...

So do I have to use Home Again? My microchip starts with 985 which I understand is a Home Again microchip. But I've also read things that you can also register with other sites such as PetLink.com

So can someone please advise me? I'd like to get this completed before she accidentally gets lost and I need to use the microchip info.

    Thanks!

Once you register the microchip with Home Again, you do not have to renew the annual membership to maintain the registration. I also register my litters Home Again chips with the AKC Reunite program, when I send in the AKC registrations, just in case the new families don't register the chip with Home Again. Statistics show that less then 50% of microchips ever get registered. Register your chips people! :-)

This below is taken from the Home Again website.
Pet Microchip FAQs for Vets & Shelters | HomeAgain Pet Microchip

"If pet owners decide not to renew their annual membership, will their pets’ microchip ID codes and information still remain in the HomeAgain database?

Once entered in the HomeAgain database, microchips are registered for life, whether or not pet owners renew their annual memberships, and contact information may be updated online anytime free of charge by logging into HomeAgain.com. However, if a non-member’s pet is lost, they are not eligible for the value-added benefits included with the annual HomeAgain membership, such as proactive outreach to local PetRescuer volunteers, travel assistance for found pets, the 24/7 medical hotline, etc.

I guess what I am struggling with is that when I go to register online they REQUIRE you to check off the box that they will automatically charge you each year to renew your membership. Maybe I should just mail in the physical paperwork with a check.

No they don't. But there is a simple solution to that, call them to register your microchip. 1-888-HomeAgain (1-888-466-3242)
