    DefaultHumping / Dominance

    Hi everyone -

I have a situation that I'd like your feedback on. I have a 10 month old male that ever since he was about 4 months old he actively humps items but only "non-breathing" things. For instance he only uses pillows, blankets, bigger toys, and his dog bed to do this. Has anyone else experienced this as well? If so, did at some age/maturity level, your male move to other dogs?

It's not something I'm worried about at the moment or looking to fix. I just see this happen multiple times a day so thought I would throw it out there.

    Thanks!

we do a "NO HUMP" and stop them. i don't believe with my dogs, it's dominance. my female humps my oldest lab, more air humping than anything else. my frenchie pup, air humps my female while standing on her back (paybacks i guess) and jake the gentleman doesn't hump.

    just redirect.

fyi this likely has absolutely nothing to do with dominance. dogs hump for a variety of reasons.

Good ideas and insight. I tend to agree that it isn't dominance in this situation. It appears its more of an "activity" or just something he has gotten used to doing. I'll try both redirecting and a verbal correction. Thanks!
