I recently noticed that on the side of Chloe's bottom lip this brown gunk seems to get stuck there. When I peel it off the skin is somewhat raw underneath. :-\ It's only on the one side, not the other. Any ideas? I've never seen this before.
Here is what I found in the "Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook:"
"Cheilitis (inflammation of the lips) can be recognized by the serum crusts that form at the junction of the hair and smooth parts of the lips. As the crusts peel off, the skin becomes raw and denuded and is sensitive to touch."
"Treatment: Clean the lips daily using benzoyl peroxide shampoo (OxyDex or Pyoben) or hydrogen peroxide diluted 1:5 with water, and then apply an antibiotic-steroid cream such as Neocort. As the infection subsides, apply petroleum jelly to keep the lips soft and pliable."
So bascially, they need chapstick!! Guess that's why Shanny is always stocking up on chapstick! ;D
I hope Chloe Girl saw this.Smart girl, Shanny!Guess that's why Shanny is always stocking up on chapstick! Grin
