    DefaultSwim #2

    Well, I can report progress.

Went to a dog beach/lake with my mom and step dad today and their disabled pup bandit who likes to swim. I didn't realize it was a 'dog park' of sorts until we got there, thought it was just a lake off a hiking trail. It wasn't busy at first, so she followed Bandit in the water after his tennis ball a couple times no problem which was great progress right away.

BUT, a bunch of dogs starting arriving and she was distracted and just wanted to wrestle and chase and play and sniff. She found a 3.5 month old lab to play with and they had a blast (even though the lil lab pup ended up on the ground the whole time, she kept running back to come play more with Reece). Tried to get her to follow that pup for fetch in the water later, but no go, too many things to see on shore.

Eventually, once she got her fill of dog bonding and was getting tired, she got excited about her canvas bumper and I was able to get her to fetch it about half dozen times in the water. The last few tosses required just a bit of swimming and she had no hesitation.

So I think we are over the hump. She definitely isn't obsessed with the water yet, but she is getting over her trepidation. Seeing other dogs still holds more value then water fetch, but that might change down the road as she matures.

There was wet dogs everywhere and I was trying to keep close to her since this was our first dog park experience, so I didn't film a ton of the dog play. She socialized very well though. She got a little rambunctious in greetings to start, but a dog warned her and she was much more respectful after that (which she needed).

She is swimming like a pro, you would never know she just started! I loved the play session with the black Lab pup, Reece is a bulldozer like my Maxx!

She certainly is "all that" and more, isn't she!
I was happy to read about Bandit being a water baby. That made me smile.

Since Bandits back surgery fetching in the water is his favorite thing ever. On land, he can only go a few times before he needs to lay down. Swimming, he can go for MUCH longer. Plus its great exercise for him. He goes to water treadmill therapy, and he is going to try a new pool out this winter for regular exercise

I just love her, she's so cute!!

It took Siren a few times of going in gradually like at the brook or the lake when we went on vacation in July to offically become a fan of swimming. Now he cries and pulls when we walk by our pool. He steps down on the 2nd step for a second or two and jumps right in. And as of yesterday I got him to fetch a tennis ball from the in the pool. Before he was just more concerned about the swimming. I'll have him deck/dock jumping by next summer.
