I usually always let Diesel lick the plate or bowl after I'm done eating unless it has some trace of something he shouldn't have. Tonight was one of those times.
He was getting pretty cheeky with pawing me, and I told him "not this one" which he usually listens to. Now, Diesel is such a good "leave it" boy that I have left a small bowl of kibble on the ottoman for an entire day, and I come home to a wet rug from drool, but the bowl still full. I have left a plate of pizza on the ottoman and he leaves it.
I set my plate down on the ottoman to go to the bathroom and when I came back out I knew I had forgotten something. Bad mama did not say "leave it" though I think now he is wishing I had.
Tonight I was in the mood for spicy, so I lathered chicken with hot salsa and even a few drops of Frank's Red Hot... that was the trace of something he shouldn't have. Poor bugger was trying to turn his tongue inside out and would not get the drink of water I tried pushing on him. Luckily he hadn't had his supper yet so I am sure the dry kibble with less zing felt good going down tonight!
Hopefully it cured him of that activity. Poor thing probably didn't know what happened to him.

Some people are like slinkies. Not really good for much, but bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.
They'll always surprise you. I'll bet he didn't enjoy that at all.
My Lab is smarter than your honor student.
Deacon 12/1/1999-4/2/2012 RIP, bestest boy.

Poor boy. He won't do that again in a hurry.
Aww. Poor baby.
Gee, what good reinforcement if only you'd thought to yell out LEAVE IT. My word for Jet was actually HOT, which I yelled as she snuck a lick of my tea cup. I'd made tea the crummy way by pouring boiling water directly into a mug with a tea bag in it. You know how hot a mug can get I'm sure, when you do it that way. I'm sure she hurt her little pink tongue but HOT worked for ever after.
Well, it hasn't phased him much at all, lol. He hopped down from the couch this morning, waiting for me to put my breakfast plate on the floor. I'll just have to be more diligent with my "leave its" though I have to give him props that this was his first countersurf incident in 3 years.
i bet he wont mind it again.
they dont get it.
^^this! They don't put 2 and 2 together if they really want to eat it!

Sometimes the hardest part isn't letting go - but learning to start over.
Yikes! Hopefully it won't burn coming out the other end too!
