DefaultIt stinks watching them get older....

We took the boys swimming this past weekend for the first time this year. Rukus was his usual crazy self and was so excited to swim.

Dozer, on the other hand, seemed to be more content watching his brother play from the shore this time. We eventually did get him to go after a few retrieves, but we could tell he just wasn't as into it as he used to be. Not sure if he's having trouble seeing the dummy or if it was the slight jump he had to make to get back onto the shore (he's got some arthritis in his hind legs), but it was a bummer seeing him slow down.

On the plus side, Rukus was so tired when we got home that he spent the rest of the day lounging around. I was finally able to get some work done around the house without him sticking his little nose in everything.

    No kidding!

Puff = Small bladder + Old Lab (12 years)

    Last night:

2 AM -- "I need to go out to pee-pee."
    "Go to sleep!"
"I really need to go out to pee-pee!"
    "Lie down! Go to sleep!"
"I really, really need to go out to pee-pee! NOW!!"
    "Okay"

We go to the back door, then out on the screened porch, then open the door
    to the outside. It's raining.

"I don't want to go out and pee-pee in that."
    "Lie down! Go to sleep!"

2:20 AM -- "I need to go out to pee-pee."
    "Go to sleep!"
"I really need to go out to pee-pee!"
    "Lie down! Go to sleep!"
"I really, really need to go out to pee-pee! NOW!!"
    "ARGH! Okay"

We get to the back door, go on the porch, open the door to the outside.
    It's raining even harder.

"I don't want to go out and pee-pee in that."
    "Lie down! Go to sleep!"

2:40 AM -- (Thunder and lightning.)

"Daddy -- make those booms go away."
    "Go to sleep!"
"PLEASE make the booms go away !"
"I can't -- Lie down! Go to sleep!"
"Those BOOMS really, really scare me! Make them STOP!!
    "Lie down! go to sleep!"

    Etc., etc., through 3:30 AM

Bob Pr...that was so funny! Probably not funny at 2 AM, but at 6:40 PM....pretty funny
Rukus&Dozer, my Jack is still young, but I had a German Shepard that was 16 when I finally had to let him go. It is so sad when they start to decline. I hate that dogs have such short lives compared to us. A lady told me once if you've given them the best life you can, if they know they are loved, if all their needs are meant, then all that's left is to enjoy them while they're here and hang on to memories when they're gone. I see one of yours was born in '05 and one in '07...they have a lot of years left. I don't know their health, I hope it's good. I hope all their days are happy ones. Yes, I know I babble

Yeah, I have a 12 yo yellow female that is not a dog, she's family; has mast cell cancer that is terminal. I love her and I don't know how I get along without her.

Yeah, it does suck to watch them get older.

Both of these commercials make me tear up, glad to know I am in good company.

Actually, we got Dozer in 2007 but he was a rescue so we don't really know how old he is. Likely somewhere between 9 and 15.

Poor Puff....she's hoping that the rain stops so she can go out! It would be so much easier if they knew how to use the toilet!
