    DefaultIs this normal?

My 2.5 year old black lab poops and pees at the same time. He squats, never lifts his leg to pee and poops simultaneously. It doesn't seem normal, because when he arches to poop, the pee squirts on himself. Anyone else with a lab that does this? Can't seem to find any info on this subject.

Have you talked to your vet about this? Is it something new? I wonder if he maybe has a UTI or something is wrong with his bladder(weak bladder/urethra or ureter issues).

He has always been a squatter when peeing and when he was younger, he would poop separately. Not sure when this behavior started, but I know it's been more than 6 months. Last October, I almost lost him to his ingestion of toxic seed pods from a Sago palm and I'm wondering if this is a side effect from this incident. Two vets advised me to put him down, that he would not survive, as only 5% of dogs make it, but I just had to give him a chance. He's been given a clean bill of health; liver levels are very good and he is doing well.

It may have to do with the squatting, as I think it is my girls that will occasionally pee when they poop. Does he do this all the time? Or maybe when he really needs to pee and poop? (Full bladder and has a big bowl movement on the way out)?

First thing in the morning, he pees a lot, no poop until after he eats. Then we head out for his morning run and he'll pee and poop two times and he'll be done pooping for the day. The rest of the day, he just pees. So I'm thinking maybe you're right, that it is because of the squatting. I wonder why he never started lifting his leg like other males. I'll run it by the vet on our next visit, just to be safe and make sure there is nothing wrong.

Oh, thank you for the links! I guess it is a normal thing after all. I appreciate you finding that for me.
