    DefaultDog ramp

    Hello!

Since I drive an SUV and jumping on the seats is a hassle (I have to lift him up each time), I decided to buy a dog ramp. However, I read that it is mostly for old and sick dogs. So, is there an alternative way?

They're not only for old or sick dogs. You'll be doing your back and the dog's joints a favor if you get one. This is the one I have Amazon.com: Solvit 62337 Deluxe Telescoping Pet Ramp: Pet Supplies

If it makes it easier for your dog to get in and out of your vehicle, I see no downside. As Labby said, it's easier on the dogs joints and that is a big plus.

Last time, when his paws hurt. I realized, I can put him in the car but I cannot get him out of the car. So he had to jump and that hurt for him.

Then a ramp will help him (and you).

LOL, where in the world did you read that?

I tried a ramp and found it fiddly and a nuisance so I boost up and lift down at the back door of my SUV. Dog weighs 75 pounds. Some people use a little step stool.

I got that from the description of the dog ramp.

The ramp finally arrived today! I had to train him to use the ramp. He is pretty glad to do so. However, I realized that he is sometimes jumping onto the ramp. The ramp, however, has something that is similar to "black sandpaper." It is to get a better grib. Do you think this hurts his paws?

No, it won't hurt his paws. It's probably like walking on a baby's butt compared to gravel, asphalt or concrete (things your dog likely walks on all the time). Dogs pads are pretty tough.

Our younger dog uses the ramp to get into the jeep. I look at it as health insurance where he isn't jarring his joints jumping in and out of a Jeep.

Mom to Indy 6/12/98 to 11/16/11 (always in my heart), and Jobe 8-14-2000 to 6/24/2013 (Working TDI) English Labs, and Annie our Golden Retriever (TDI), and Kodiak (who will one day hopefully be a TDI dog if he doesn't kill me first).
