Got health insurance for Jack today.

I ran the numbers and based on a $3k a year claim, it was only $65 more expensive (overall annual cost) to go with a $1000 deductive 90% coverage plan vs $500 deductive 80% coverage plan. The former is $17 a month and the later is $28. So basically if nothing major happens in a year, I save $132 a year (most likely) but if something does happen (based on a 3 grand claim average), I'm only out 65 bucks more out of my pocked compared to the lower deductible plan - a no brainer. The totals I ran included, annual premium cost, deductible amount as well as the "leftover" amount, which is either 10% or 20% depending on the plan. It was far cheaper (even if there was an average-cost claim) to go with a high deductible but higher coverage percentage plan. 10 grand a year coverage limit.

For $17 a month it's very affordable. I got the policy from Embrace, which was rated highly - as second - for pet insurance. The company rated highest was way too expensive at $38 a month for the same coverage limits and deductible amount.

Sounds like you got a good deal. I've been checking around a bit for my Jack, so thank you for this post.

I use trupanion for my dogs. The premium is higher but I only pay 10:/: of any claim but ere is a $500 deductible. The cover anything including genetic disorders. The first claim takes about a month to get reimbursed but After that about a week. Both of my vets office recommended this company. They do not cover things like vet visits but they have no limits to things like cancer and that was the most important thing to me. Also she has no yearly limits for what I can claim.

I have Embrace also. $500 deductible. They have a free live vet talk that I used to ask their opinion on neutering. The vet advised to wait. Thought that was cool.

I have Embrace as well for Siren. Where he's young I got the wellness package on top of the regular insurance to help out with the shots and when the time comes nutering. When he gets a bit older I'll probably drop that portion of the insurance.
