DefaultPutting paw on me when petting

Hi, my 10 month old lab Piper wants to put her paw on me when she sits facing me and I pet her. She will put it on my arm and then sit up on her hind legs or put her paw on my lap and then sit up on her hind legs. No matter how many times during one pet that I try to take her paw off of me she keeps putting it back up. If I pet her when she sits sidways to me so my hand is behind her head she is fine. Any ideas why she does this and how I can get her to stop? She is adorable and this is hardly anything to complain about but I just want all feet on the floor.

They are very "touchy" dogs, my girl does this all the time...just roll with it.

Why on earth would you want her to stop?

Todd is a toucher too! He has to put a paw on everyone. It is adorable but I am trying to teach him to be gentle and not touch my face! Its hard.

Is it because you interpret it as a dominance thing? It can be a dominance thing, but if that is the only "dominance" behavior you see; I wouldn't worry about it. Bauer does it too, but I interpret it as him wanting to touch me ALL THE TIME. He is a toucher, and I love it.

You could also use the behavior to teach the "paw" command, and then "no paw" command.

Why in the world would you want her to stop? Sophie does what we call "giving us the paw" when we love on her. It is her way of showing she loves us. She doesn't "give the paw" to just anybody.
