DefaultSpeaking of dive-bombing... poor Diesel LOL

Walking down the street minding our own business and out of nowhere a red-winged blackbird dive bombs the Diesel Dawg. Man, I have never seen Diesel jump so high and land turned facing the other direction with a Bull Dog stance like "oh ya?!" yet not knowing who poked him in the ribs. LMAO!

All I saw was a flash of black and saw the bird fly up to the telephone wires. So we kept walking along on our way home, and just as we get a few feet in front of the bird on the wire, down he comes again, but this time I saw him coming (poor Deez did not) and he literally swooshed down and pecked Diesel in the ribs and flew up to the wires again. Diesel had a WTF expression and this time his tail between his legs, poor bubba. The bird was squawking so loudly, two men were walking towards us and one put his grocery bag on his head and said, "he's not gonna dive-bomb me!" we stood and watched and funnily enough the bird stayed put on the wire. We were far enough away I guess that he decided to leave us alone at that point. There must have been a nest nearby?! Poor Deez kept checking behind him the rest of the way home.

    Anyone else's dog get a dive-bomb??

The red winged black bird is a marsh bird. They like to make their nests in the reeds.
When I was swimming Paddy and Seamus, there was a nest in the beautiful cluster of cattails in our swimming area. The reds would hover like Harriers above the reeds, cautioning my dogs to stay away, but they never dive-bombed them.

Are you and Deez near water? A pond or lagoon or anything else that would be home to the reds?

Not that I'm aware of, Nance. We are near a trail, perhaps there is water there somewhere I haven't seen? It was a pretty open sidewalk next to a sports arena, few bushes and trees near the building, but that's about it.

I'm pretty sure it was a red-winged blackbird... it was black as a raven with a bright yellow and bright red stripe on its wings... angry bugger.

Here is where I learned about the reds... they would hover above the cattails
and caution my dogs, but never swooped down upon them.

Yes! That is the bird we saw. Same expression too, LOL!

I've seen them a few times, but more so just outside the city at my friend's place, he lives near a conservation area with ponds, etc. We mostly get robins, bluejays, or cardinals here in the city.

LOL! I got bombed last year by one of those There are a few places here you must be careful as they have their nest near trails. It is TOO FUNNY to watch the bird dive bomb unsuspecting runners/pedestrians (never heard of them going after dogs though!). They seemed to prefer people with pony tails

LOL! As mean as it sounds, I'm glad he went after Diesel and not me. I have a strange phobia of uncaged birds, he got close enough for my liking just swooping down for Deez!
