DefaultTess is trialing new food for the vets.

    Protein is chicken feathers.

A few weeks ago my vet was all excited as he told me he had been to a conference and he was hoping to trial a new food and he wanted to use Ernie and Tess. Usually food has been on the market for years before we get it so the vet profession is excited we are able to trial it.

He called last week to say he is doing it and the food would be there in a couple of days. He was like a boy in a candy store. They claim they have not had a dog react to this food. The way it is processed it is the new wonder food for food sensitivities.

We decided to feed Tess first as Erns may not be quite stable enough to change food.

I got it home and it smelt so good I said to Garry open a wine and we can have nibbles. The dogs were like there were on crack trying to get it.
I googled to read up on it and one site said the feathers were from road kill. How many chickens do people run over?lolol.

I am paying $150.00 for an 8 kilo bag of chicken feathers. lol.

Oh Chris, I hope this is the answer for both of them!! How awesome would it be to be able to feed them both the same food and have NO reactions?!?! Please, God, let it be!

I really hope this is an answer for you!

I wonder what is the process that differs feathers versus meat for allergic dogs?

I hope this works for both of them. After reading the article that Laura posted, it sure seems promising.

Off topic but I had to show this post to my mom because.she thought I paid a lot of my food. She about craped her self seeing how much it is for you. She says you are a very good dog owner and there is a special place in heavan for people like you.

It is a novel protein. Not many dogs would have eaten chicken feathers before so maybe why they claim is works.

My vet says it is cooked in a different way to usual hypoallergenic food. Hypoallergenic food it is hydrolyzed. This means protein ingredients are broken down into tiny pieces -- so tiny that the dog's immune system doesn't trigger a reaction.

Erns needs a novel protein. Novel protein is something he hasn't eaten before. His food is soya.

Tess hasn't needed a novel protein. Hers is more finding food without the things that set off her yeast infections.
