Defaultxpost from O&O -- Vet or vet-knowledgable folks...

Need your advice/knowledge-base/experience. This dog is *not* a lab but a beloved longhair GSD.

    The timeline:

Spayed, a week later swelling in the lymph nodes, fever, fluid in lungs. CAT and MRI, ultra sounds show swollen tissue but no foreign objects. Spay incision is clean and show no complications, fever was 105.7 fluctuated until put on steroids but is still running a low grade fever. Lethargic still and showing minor signs of pain. This puppy was born with a heart murmur but that has cleared, she has had almost continual UTI issues and has been off and on antibiotics almost all of her life! she is chronically thin, and her spay surgery was put off until she weighed enough - and she barely made that. She has no "known" problems in the lines per her breeder.

    Thoughts??????

And for everyone else: Prayers appreciated

Hey Dan....would you mind if I x-post this on the other lab board? There are quite a few GSD owners there as well as quite a few lab breeders. They may have some ideas.

Absolutely. Kida is currently being treated by one of the best vet hospitals in our county -- the staff migrates directly from U of Penn School of Veterinary Medicine, and it's the same site where I had Wes' cardiac issues diagnosed and treated. They are top-notch. But they're also stumped in this situation. Just thought I'd cast around for any/all ideas.

Good thoughts for her. That's not a dog I would have performed elective surgery on.

How old is the dog and was she on any meds before the spay?

8 months old. Lungs continually showed up as 'compromised.' Vets thought lymph nodes, but that didn't seem to lead anywhere....

Any problems during the surgery? Aspirated during surgery.. developed pneumonia?, contracted kennel cough? Allergic reaction to the sedative? Sorry just spit balling here.

    Prayers for her.

All good questions. Exactly the kind of brainstorming I'm looking for....
