DefaultSo I guess Hamilton flooded our basement

Hamilton likes to dig holes in our backyard and one of his favorite places to dig is in a patch of dirt under our kitchen window. Never really thought much of it, it didn't look like a deep hole. Today we had horrible rain and when my husband went to the basement he found water coming in from a crack under a basement window. Seems Hamilton's digging exposed the crack which had previously been covered with dirt. My husband and son made a quick trip to the garden center and filled in Hamilton's hole, took 80 pounds of soil to fill the hole. Needless to say, he won't be allowed to dig there anymore!

80 pounds? Wow! Maybe he was just trying to help you out by pointing out the crack?

Wow! You might want to reexcavate and fix that crack! He may have done you a favor.

My thought as well. Soil is permeable, you'll probably get leakage into the wall, though maybe not a flood. And then if leakage freezes in cold weather the crack may get bigger.

Hey, could be a new sniffer dog opportunity for you? Instead of mould in walls you could hire him out to find cracks.

Spoke to my husband, seems I misunderstood, the crack was in the glass window not the wall, the dirt had been covering part of the window and when Hamilton dug out the soil, he exposed the crack window. We bought the house almost three years ago and the foundation checked out with no problem.
