When we first adopted Misty from the dog rescue (last Fall) she had a hard time settling down outside. She would not lay down or give up wanting to chase her tennis ball for the entire time we were outdoors. I believe it was because at the rescue outdoor time was always a walk or playing catch and then back into the cage.
This Spring she is finally able to just relax outside and lay beside us as we do yardwork. She has even found a shaded place in the ground cover near the deck that is her special cooling off spot on hot days. I have discovered that black labs get hot basically anytime the sun is out! (We have never had a black dog before). Can't wait to see if she likes the pool this summer for cooling off.
Anyway, she is a great dog and we love her. Glad she is comfortable enough now to just hang out in the yard with us being a happy lab.
Good girl Misty! Now the whole family can enjoy outside time together. Hope she likes the pool.
Awww! This is good! She does sound settled!

Misty is learning that her outside time is not limited like it was at the rescue, she feels more relaxed and able to enjoy it and just 'be.'
Thank you for rescuing her! Oh and yes, black dogs coats just soak up the sun.

Once she has found her special place in her yard, she knows she is really home.
That is really special! And yes, the black Labs do get hot! If it is over 75° here it is too hot for Maxx! I have never had a Lab dislike the heat quite as much but I have never had a Lab with as thick a coat as his either. He loves the cold of Winter and coolness of Spring and Fall. He spends the Summer swimming or sleeping on the a/c vent!
