    DefaultMosquitoes and my Marley

So it's Mosquito season here officially tonight as I scratch and can't sleep! Lol. I'm worried about my boy. I am going to call tomorrow, our pest control people and get them out here to spray and they assure me it's safe for my pup. I'm still Leary. What do any of you think?

This may not be a popular opinion, but you DID ask "What do any of you think?"....this is what I think. It takes one mosquito to give your best buddy Marley heart worm. As I said before, I've seen a dog with it. I don't know everything...don't even know a lot....I just know my Jack will take heart worm preventive. I guess some dogs have an adverse reaction to it, just as some children have bad reactions to some vacines they need. Jack doesn't seem to have any reaction to it. It doesn't have to be Heartgard, put please protect your dog. My 2 cents.

I rarely see any insects in my house since I put in those pest repellent plug-ins, one in every room. (No mice either) They don't seem to work for spiders.
Outside, I get those large bags of cedar chips for the areas in the yard where they like to lay. Mine all get HartGuard too.

Some form of heartworm prevention is a MUST. As for anything else (flea and tick) that is not such an issue.

There is not a lot any kind of 'pest control' company can do to prevent mosquitoes, so I would not be paying anyone to do something that really is not going to work.

Keep anything and everything that can hold any amount of water cleaned out and that will go a long way towards preventing mosquitoes. If you have a pond, put fish in it; they will eat the larvae. In bird baths, etc., there are tablets you can out in the water that supposedly kill the larvae but the water is still safe for birds and animals.

Combine in a 16 oz bottle:
    15 drops lavender oil
    3-4 Tbsp of vanilla extract
    1/4 Cup lemon juice.

Fill bottle with water. Shake.Ready to use.

This is just to act as a repellent, NOT to replace heartworm preventative.

Where do I find the lavender oil? I definitely want to try this!

Any health food store should have it.

Hi everyone, yes, Marley is on a heartworm and flea meds from the vet. I was just wondering if the spraying for mosquitoes is really safe for him to be roaming around on the grass or not.

I wondered as an afterthought if that's what you meant. Sorry. I'm just heart worm paranoid. I don't have that answer. We don't get sprayed here. I'm sure someone here can answer that for you.
