I have two cats and also get regular visits from my neighbors cat. I sometimes leave out some dry cat food on my deck (Friskies) for the neighbors cat since his owner goes away most weekends and I don't think his wife feeds him while he's gone. I have since bought a pressure mounted gate for my cat's area with a pet door on the bottom so once Siren is too big to fit thru I can leave it open for the girls to be able to get to thier food. I leave the cats food out all the time, they are grazers. HOWEVER my Siren goes absolutely insane over the Friskies. Some split in the yard yesterday and he went nuts trying to fish out the pieces out of the grass. I have to really pull on him to get him to leave it and have to make sure the gate to the cat food is closed whenever he's out and about. He literally sits at that gate and whines over it.
Do any of you have pups that go this crazy over cat food? I think it's a seafood flavored food, do Labs like fish? And it's not like he's hungry I feed him plenty and he's not nearly as excited for that as he is the cat food.
I might add that one of my cats dug a hole in the puppy kibble bag and she was going nuts for that. It's a crazy mixed up world I'm living in.
Mine specialises in recycled cat food :-(
Mine go crazy over everything and anything. My cat gets a wet/dry mix diet and Tank drools when I open the cat cans.
~It doesn't matter how smart the dog is,it matters how smart the owner is.
Flynn. Flynn was a cat food (Purina Cat Chow) maniac. Yes he was.

Labs are never not hungry, but they go crazy over any food that they don't get regularly... the little treats they get at the drive-through bank window ars so much better than when they get the exact same treats at home. It must be the same for cat food not meant for them.
Mine LOVE cat food too- every morning after I feed the cats their canned food the dogs race down to the basement to get a tiny, tiny bit of food off of the spoon. Their eyes practically bug out of their heads!
We have cat food outside too and a special set up so the dogs can't get to it, but they still try, every single day.
I am convinced that both cats and dogs experience envy and greed. :-)
