I don't recall how we ever got started on this -- it was many years ago -- but Puff LOVES peanuts as treats.
(She also loves peanut butter and she always eagerly swallows her daily G&C pills and Fish Oil caps as long as they're offered with a dollop of PB on them.)
I use peanuts as effective treats when training her to do something new (such as pick up the newspaper outside and take it upstairs to B.). B. is prepared in advance with a small dish with several halves of peanuts to immediately exchange with Puff for the paper together with her praise.
When we're driving back and forth between Lawrence and Topeka (or anywhere for that matter), periodically Puff's nose from the backseat will always nudge my arm reminding me that she loves peanuts and would REALLY appreciate it if I'd unscrew the peanut jar lid and offer her a few. (I impose a limit of about 7 halfs or 3 1/2 whole shelled peanuts at a serving.) Within a few minutes, her nose is nudging me again for a final, second offering (my limit again) on that trip -- then Puff settles down to sleep or sits up to watch the scenery.
Since Puff lacks human molars to grind them up, the peanuts are never chewed -- only sometimes/often cracked into smaller pieces -- and these pieces have a very obviously undigested appearance in her daily stools.
I think peanuts are great training rewards -- highly desired AND with almost zero calorie value.
Anyone else use these?
(P.S. We always remove any salt before offering them to Puff -- or use unsalted peanuts.)

Mine insist on sharing if I am eating peanuts, but as you said, they pass through undigested so definitely low calorie !
I thought most nut meats were quite high in calories? Maybe the digestion bit affects calorie intake. I use them once in a while too. You should try them with the shell on. It's so funny to watch your dog figure it out and shell them.
Seamus and Darwin love them. Paddy was... nuts about them!

My dog would probably eat peanuts until he burst I would imagine. He gets peanut butter in his kong at times as a treat.
Mine will eat almost anything edible. Peanuts are pretty high on the list.
Sharon, Blaise and Diesel.
I have never given mine peanuts, I'll have to try them.

Sometimes the hardest part isn't letting go - but learning to start over.
I used Peanut Butter to give Duke his meds...loved it so much I still give it to him sometimes....Fun to watch him try and lick the excess off his muzzle.
I give him whole, shelled, unsalted peanuts too sometimes as a treat...he even recognizes the bag when I come home from the store with them...Immediately goes to his "sit," and he waits...
