DefaultWhat Seamus has learned from Darwin

Oh. Very good. VERY good. Instead of taking that rawhide to your special place, you will now make sure that all the dogs see that you have one. And are not going to gnaw on it right away.

Dar has never been a big rawhide or bone or any other "gnawing thing" fan. But occasionally he'll latch onto one. And he growls, and he barks, and he acts the maniac thinking someone is going to steal it from him. He never enjoys the "thing" but he DOES enjoy his own bravado guarding it! It is... annoying ... and I remove that bone from him and put it somewhere else for him to find later on. Yeah. Great correction.

So now? Quiet Seamus has learned to take his gnaw to wherever he pleases and let out the BIG BOY BARK if one of the other guys so much as looks at him! From another room! "I see you looking at my bone. It's MINE! Stay BACK!"

I'm working on correcting that but I'm not even sure why. He's doing his dog thing, I guess. The other dogs respect it, by golly! "Shea?!? You barkin' at US? Huh?? You barking at US????"

Sometimes the hardest part isn't letting go - but learning to start over.

Odd how Seamus picked that up, when he hasn't been a 'guarder' in all these years. Wonder why now?

Sometimes I wish Champ would guard what he has, but Buddy always walks up and takes away whatever it is, and Champ lets him.

What I think? Just because he can. There are moments, just from time to time, Seamus takes on the attitude of Alexander Haig from years ago:

    "I'm in charge now!"

    Remember that? *snicker*

They do learn a lot from each other. Personalities tend to blend the longer they are together. (Isn't that true of people too?)

That's it! Because he CAN! He's top dog, there are no more assertive personalities present, so he is free to express himself however he feels.

That's why my boys do some of the silly things they do now that they never did while Bill was alive. Because they can, they know he's not there to repress them any longer.

And yes, I vaguely remember Haig taking control when Reagan was shot ...
