    DefaultMy Sweet Chocolate Lydia

My sweet girl Lydia who will be two April 15th was spayed yesterday. She also had some surgery on her eyelids. She is such a sweet girl...when I went to pick her up from the vet she came out and rolled over for a belly rub. She looks so pitiful but is doing super good. It breaks my heart to have had to make the deicison to take her out of my breeding program, but beings she developed entropian lately I can not in good faith breed a girl with that issue. She has had three seasons and with each one her head got broader and broader therefore making her eyelids roll in, and her eyelashes were irritating her eyes. I am thankful the surgeries went well and in a couple of weeks will be ready for her new adventure in life.

My avatar is her mother Thelma so you can see why she has a big mug...although more feminine than Thelma's is.

Thanks for letting me share about my girl...

I'm sorry to hear about Lydia developing entropion. I didn't know what that was so of course I did a quick internet search on it. Reading that this condition is usually genetic, how would the broadening of Lydia's head contribute to the condition? And will the surgery completely correct the condition? I'm really just looking for some education on the subject.

Give Lydia the best spot on the bed now.

Yes it can be genetic, however Lydia did not exhibit any signs up until a few weeks ago. Most labs continue to mature until they are 3-4 years old (more so in intact animals due to hormones) , and with maturity their heads can broaden out. This is the reason Lydia's did not show as a puppy. Her head has broadened more with each heat cycle, causing the skin on her skull to get tighter and pull her eyelids inward. Lydia's case was very slight. It happened quickly and I was pro-active in getting it treated. I had to wait until she was out of season for over a month beifre she was spayed or it would have been done a month ago. The surgery has corrected the issue and she will not have any more issues with it for two reasons. 1.) My vet took enough tissue away from her eyelids that they do not roll in anymore. 2.) With being spayed, she will not produce the hormones any longer that can make her head broaden more.

    Thank you for asking...

I´m planning to spay Misha in a couple months (she´s 6 y/o). I´m definitely not looking forward to the after-surgery recovery...

    Hope she recovers soon.

Hope Lydia is feeling right as rain today!

I am sorry she had to be retired from your breeding program - but hope she gives you many years of love in return for early retirement!

Also - thank you for the education - I love learning over here!
