    Defaultgood news at the vet

Boys had their annual vet visit today.

Buddy was 75 pounds in November, today 71.3. He is 6.5 years old.

Champ was 94 pounds in November, today 88.5. He is 7.5 years old.

    Both are heartworm negative.

Champ has 2 lipomas, one on his back just at the start of his right 'angel wing,' and the other on his left ribs. Now that he is down quite a bit in weight, they are more noticeable. I asked the vet to aspirate them and they both show as just fatty lipomas, but I will keep an eye on them.

Both have clean ears, great teeth, and are in excellent condition.

How do you get them to keep weight down over winter? Mine have all gained, had to change their 1 cup measure to a 3/4 cup in their food bin.

I cut back a bit on the kibble and they get green beans as a filler. I have been able to control exactly how much they get now, whereas Bill did not measure carefully.

Champ gets 1.5 cups 2x a day, Buddy gets a scant cup 2x a day, and they get a few kibbles added to the green beans for their bed-time snack.

Now that their breakfast and dinner are over 12 hours apart (~4:00 am and ~4:30 pm) Monday through Friday, I could probably just add the beans to their dinner and cut out the 3rd feeding. They also get a Kong filled with fat-free yogurt and apple, sealed with PB, when I leave for work.
