    DefaultWes update -- mixed bag

Well I think he used up all his exuberance telling the vet people that he wanted to go home.

He was all wiggles when I picked him up, but he's moving VERY slowly. He DID (heh) fairly JUMP into the backseat of the car, but once there, he snuzzled down and fell asleep. Which is VERY not Wes; He's a bouncy-ball in the car, always!!!

The reunion w/the girls was as huggy as I expected.

He made it to a spot on the kitchen floor, laid himself down, and didn't budge. Slept the evening away.

At one point, though, he let go the longest, most soulful baying -- Nance, I thought BEAGLE!!! -- as if to say, "Okay, I'm sick of all this and this sonofabitch HURTS!"

    ARooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo. ..

I have never heard a sound like that from him before in his entire life.

I gave him some of the pain meds, and that seemed to help.

At bedtime, he could not make it upstairs. I don't think he can bear much weight on the leg at all, and the prospects of climbing were just too much (although how he jumped into the car is beyond me).

    So.

He and I slept on the floor in the living room.

    Ugh.

He was okay through most of the night. He cried off and on.

Took him out this morning. He peed but didn't poo. Still walking VERY slow. Isn't interested in doing much at all.

Got him back inside. Fought the battle of the meds, which is always entertaining. Fed him a little (again, not much interest), and kissed him goodbye to come to work.

It is GREAT having him home. But I'm looking forward to his improvement over the next few days.

Aw, reading that was breaking my heart. Good thoughts for a speedy recovery for Wes.

Well, not too bad. Give him about 48 hours for all the anesthesia to leave his system. Then he should begin to rally a bit more, at least for his meals. I'm glad your boy is home with the family.

Well that almost put a tear in my eye. Poor guy.

Is someone home with him today?

He's on his own today. We gated him in the kitchen, just in case he needs to have a bowel movement while we're @ work. That'll cause major stress (he's very proud that way), but there wasn't much I could do. There was no way he was pooping this morning, even if he had the urge.

And knowing Mr Stoic like I do, he may actually prefer being on his own today. Sorta a chance to heal by himself without all the fuss-n-bother.

Vet tech had his personality down to a tee, even after knowing him for only a day.

"He's like that old guy you see at a nursing home; the one that'll struggle with a walker or a wheelchair, but if someone goes to help, he gets all independent and assertive: I'll do it myself, thank you!"

    That's Wes all right.....
