Buddy was the (now 11 year old) chocolate lab that was at my house at fat camp last year (Sept 2008-June 2009). Last year, Buddy started out at nearly 150 pounds and by the time he left my house was about 93 pounds. While Bud's dad has kept his weight off, poor ol' Bud deserves better than what he has for the winter. Joe, (Bud and Red (my co-own and brother to Kodi and Hoss) keeps the dogs out on the pourch, with a window open), in an ex-pen, but only with a thin blanket on the floor. Both are walked for about 5 mintues 3 times a day and otherwise spend their lives in the ex-pen. (Red gets a bit more exercise, but because Bud does not always come when called, Joe keeps him an a flexi). Bud has arthritis and HD.
So I asked Joe if I could take Bud for the winter and he gladly said yes! Bud does very well on an ecollar, so I can let him off leash and he gets way more exercise. He looks so happy here! The other day Joe said that he sat down with Bud and actaully scratched him on his head and patted him and that he "Actually liked it!" (well DUH!) Bud is poop incontenent(sp?) but I can deal with that if it gives him a happy place for the winter. He loves baking in front of the space heater. I just wish I could get Red, but I think having a dog at home (even if it is on the pourch) is important for Joe's well being (despite it not being ideal for the dog)
O.k. have I rambled long enough?
