    Defaultnew black lab

    Hello

I have a 4 year old lab that we rescued, The dog is great, He loves to fetch toys and is good with our other2 dogs. I have recently found out that the dog was abused when he was a puppy. Could this be why he always stares at the floor? I hope someone can help with this.

    Thanks
    Bob

    Talk about burying the lead!

Explain what you mean by staring at the floor? This could be a seizure symptom.

Hi and welcome. Could you explain a little better what you mean by "always stares at the floor?" Do you mean that he avoids eye contact with you or that he literally looks down all the time?

Hi and welcome. I adopted a 3.5 year old who avoided eye contact.I put this down to being shoved away from people and not used to the interaction. If this is what you mean Ernie came right with time. Tess was abused and doesn't avoid eye contact.

    Is he eating/drinking normally?

When I got my rescue Pug last year, he was doing the same thing. Spent most of the day sitting under my computer desk with his head down looking miserable. He already had what I thought was an eye infection when I got him & I was going to take him to the vet for it anyway. That infection turned out to be glaucoma. After 4 days of painkillers, anti inflammatories & eye ointment, I had to get his eye taken out on the 5th day. I later learned from the vet & my own research that the pain that poor dog was in prior to seeing the vet was the equivalent of the worst migraine you can imagine. Removing the eye brought him almost instant relief.

I'm not trying to scare you. It could be am abuse issue from his previous life or it could be a medical problem. I'd get him to a vet for a thorough check up ASAP.

Good luck & thanks for giving him a decent home.

And it could also be that he has been institutionalized for a while and is a little traumatized by it. Often rescue dogs take several weeks to really settle in to a new home. How long have you had him?
