    DefaultDont step on the baby!

Ok Logan is now wanting to be on the mat and has started to roll over. Im getting a bit over anxious about Alfie maybe stepping on him as he likes to walk around in circles alot so tend to put Alfie on his bed when Logan is on the floor. But I dont want it to be like that! How can I teach Alfie to be careful of the baby on the mat?

Try letting him be when Logan is on the floor. See what happens. Buddy tends to be a bull in a china shop whenever I lie on the floor. He never once stepped on Kaitlyn, though. They seem to instinctively know that they're babies and need protection.

I also agree. Just watch him and see what he does. As long as he's not chasing a ball or something, it should be okay.

So much depends on the individual dog, and how gentle they are or aren't with a baby. Our son's Lab, Newman, is a gentle giant. But he would occassionally turn and whack the baby with his tail. Inintentionally.

The key is that you have to watch and be right there to intervene/stop the accident. Most of our Labs are gentle with little ones, but accidents happen.

Absolutely Ed, definately supervised! I sat and watched and he walked around Logan then went to sit down and i though he was gonna sit on him but missed him by a couple of centimetres! Alfie is pretty gentle when it comes to kids but can be careless with his feet

Alfie might suprise you! My girl is usualy rowdy, but when I visited my friend who has a 6 year old disabled daughter, and a small infant, she just laid down between the girls and let them play with her ears & pet her. No prompting on my part at all. Supervised of course tho! The only time the 6 year old got mad was when Saff wouldnt stay put for the tea party.

I have a one year old, my dog is very gentle with him, except if we are outside and she has her ball. She does not care who is in the way. Koko will tolerate so much of Luke crawling on her and when she has had enough she will walk away. I think all of you will learn and adjust accordingly. You will be watchful and anxious at first but the dog will learn where he needs to be and when. Sometimes I have to remind koko to "go lay down". If your dog knows that command your set.
