I don't know how he did it. We left him un-coned for a while yesterday, but it looked fine this morning when I left. When Mom saw him at lunch, she said it was open. I got home tonight and indeed it was. He still has one stitch, or half a stitch, but it's all red and raw and gaping. Not a big hole, but still.
I put Betadine and Neosporin on it, and he's back in the cone. Sorry Simon. He has always been coned when we're not home. We only left it off when we were here and could keep an eye on him. But apparently he needs two eyes on him 100% of the time when the cone is not on. I'm really mystified how this happened, because it looked OK this morning.
I made an appt to have his stitches looked at and hopefully removed on Wednesday. I'm out of town on Thu-Fri at our company retreat, so if I don't do it then it will be Saturday before I can get him back in there.
Oh dear, back to the Cone of Silence, Simon!
If it makes you feel any better, Connie, I had a cat who tore out all his stitches in about 10 seconds while he was still at the vet. Needless to say, they comped the cleanup and restitch...
Oh, crap! Simon, I know those stitches are bugging the crap out of you, but just leave them alone for a couple more days!
Poor Simon. I hope he heals quickly. These labs are fast. When Abby was spayed she had a cone. SU felt sorry for her when she was sitting on the couch with him & he took the cone off for a short while. She must have given the incision some good licks in that short time because her incison got red & weepy. A trip to the veyt for some antibiotics & back in the cone until the stitiches came out.
Simon I hope you get that cone off soon good luck.
Si-MON! Enough with the stitches. LEAVE IT!
You'll never get out of that cone otherwise...
Take it from Wes, who's acting as if he's been in his for 3,964 days in a row.

Simon you leave that paw alone. Sorry Connie.
I had a GR that blew out some of his stitches crawling under a fence a few days after they were put in. The vet had us put a product called Granulux on the incision and it worked great.
