God, I love this dog! We went to Cherrybrook to pick up an order for a friend the other day (and to spend some of the gift certificate she gave Caleb). The daughter of the owner of the Chinese Restaruant next door asked if she could pet him. Pretty cool. Of course, I said, "Yes" and warned her he was probably going to try to kiss her. After she petted him for a minute or so, she asked if he could do anything. So he showed her how he shakes hands, waves, does hi-fives, does "head down", and such. Next thing I knew, we were doing recalls, some simple heeling and weaving between my legs, all in front of the store. She asked if he could weave through her legs, but she wasn't tall enough. When I told her that, she decided she wanted to do a recall! LOL The best part was, when she called my boy, he trotted very nicely up to her, but before he could sit in front of her, she started taking a steps backward (she must have thought he needed more room). Which had Caleb walking with her. We solved that problem when I told her to stand still and tell him to sit. She did it a second time with no issues. He also did the sweetest "head down" I've ever seen him do when she asked him to. Mick used to love "working" with kids like that. Caleb is so excited when he sees kids, I never thought he'd turn his working brain on enough to do more than wave or shake hands with a kid he'd just met.
Ain't it awesome when they totally surprise & amaze us!
Lexi does that everyone now & again with me. Times when I think she'll do one thing, she does the complete opposite.
My pretty girl, Lexi!

Sometimes the hardest part isn't letting go - but learning to start over.
