    DefaultTVD Study... and Wes

I have had a change of heart. Heh. Pun there.

When I first started having Wes' heart issues treated -- resulting from TVD that was diagnosed in him as a pup -- I was invited to participate in a study by UPENN Vet School. Involved taking a sample of his blood. And -- (and here's where I couldn't do it) -- removal of his heart post-mortem, with the organ sent to the school for study.

Couldn't do it. Not even sure why..... Just couldn't.

    But.

    I'm changing my mind.

We're scheduled to go tonight for his Holter. In prep for the surgery needed on his dewclaw.

While there, I'll be signing the paperwork to participate in the study.

I will, however, be attaching a rider. It's not allowed to kick in until YEARS and YEARS from now, during which Wes continues to have a full, active, healthy, belly-scratch-laden life.

I've told Wes this, too, just to make it clear to him what my expectations are. He's agreed to hold up his end of the bargain.

That is a noble thing to do and it will help them to understand the disease better.

I have always had my dogs cremated, so I don't think I'd be that upset about it, post mortem.

Hoping Wes has many more happy years ahead!!

Great thing you and Wes to do -- hopefully many years from now. It'll allow Wes's life to contribute to the health of other dogs.

That's very generous of you. I think it would be difficult for me, too. But let's not think about it for many, many years!
