    DefaultRocky Mountain Tick Fever

Anyone heard of this? My friend's dog was just diagnosed with this...he should make a full recovery. But I looked it up and scary stuff!! We just found our first tick on Brooklyn...now I'm totally freaked.

How do you find a tick on a black dog???

There was a dog on here...Spike, that was diagnosed with it.

Oh ugh. We didn't see ANY ticks last year. I think because we had such a brutal winter. But with this winter being so mild...I fear that is not going to be the case.

And humans can get this disease. Fan-flippin'-tastic.

Ticks. Disgusting. No cosmic purpose to their existence at all.

My 13 YO female tested positive for ehrlichia two years in a row. Last year, she was put on 30 days of antibiotics even though she was asymptomatic, and the vet said that she might continue to test positive, but not to worry about it. When I asked how this was possible, as I live in an area where ticks are prevalent and I keep her on prevention all year, he told me that even things like Frontline do not prevent the ticks from biting. Nasty creatures!

Melissa you are in CT right? Is this common throughout the state? My brother lives in Old Greenwich, should I warn him to check often on their Golden Retriever? Being from Mexico we´re not used to dealing with these kind of critters (at least not in Mexico City).

How do you prevent it? Do the Advantage or other flea/tick solutions work?

    thanks
