I've actually used it on myself. I buy the oils at Whole Foods and mix my own bug spray. I think the tea-tree oil worked best for me (mixed with the citronella). However I have read somewhere that you shouldn't use it on dogs. Can't remember exactly why.

I've used this spray on my horses as well with good results.

No, but I know that Zoe hates the smell of citronella. We had a citronella candle going in the house and she did not want to come into the family room. Also, she did have a spray collar once and I think it was citronella based. We have since given it away.

If it works for Diesel, that would be great.

LOL, so in your house citronella is a Zoe repellant! That's not good

I bought some today to use for myself because I hate the smell of OFF! & don't like to use chemicals on my skin if I can avoid it. For Diesel I would likely just dab a bit in various places on him, not rub it in all over.

I HATE the smell of citronella. I can not even go in the aisles in garden stores where there are citronella products, so I would never put it on or near my dogs. Might work, but I can not stand the smell!!

Me too, I actually bought Lemongrass oil, it cost more than the citronella but omg did it smell better!!! You should try the Lemongrass it is a softer scent, but does the same thing - might not be as powerful?

I use a natural product whose active repelling ingredient is lemon eucalyptus oil.

That sounds like a good combo! I can't stand pure eucalyptus but the lemon might make it nicer. Where do you apply it & have they ever tried to lick it off? Any side effects?

I use Repel that they talk about in the first article. I use it for me and the boys and the dogs. I've only done it a couple times and put it on the back of the neck area. But when I looked it up I found a cool collar for essential oil so I'm posting that link, too.
