    Defaultmother, brothers and sisters

Do they know that somewhere they have a mother, a brother or a sister? If I find her mom, brother\sister will she know who they are? Will she recognized them? Will she be happy to see them again?

I would like to do that for her ..to see her mother and her brothers or sister.

I have had reunions etc. No, they don't realize they are siblings.

BUT, they do realize that they are relatively the same age and level of playfulness. I will say that I do think that my puppies remember ME. And my dogs remember their breeder. Not necessarily a remember, but that something is familiar.

Your dog doesn't need to know its family. Just that you are their family.

YOU are her family now. She doesn't care about her mom or siblings, she only cares about you.

You are her family now. Besides, what if her real mom turned out to be a lady of the night, her sister is a chippy, and her brother is a con artist! YIKES!

No, you just raise that girl with all the love and care you can. You want to see little hearts fluttering from her eyes each time she looks at YOU.

    You are her family.

I did meet Kassa brother when they were about a year old. Kassa loved the rabbits at the pet barn so I used to take her there. One day coming out I was getting into the car and thought. What is Kassa doing out of the car. She was in the car and the pup I saw turned out to be her litter mate. His family and I were really amazed how alike thery were. They lived the next suburb from us and we exchanged phone numbers. They loved to play together from time to time, but not sure they knew they were related. I adopted Erns 2.5 years later when they went back to Singapore and a few months Kassy died.

That's so sweet, you thinking of her like that, but no she wouldn't know anything more than they are other dogs to play with! Everyone is right, YOU are her family and this is my most favourite quote about dogs...

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, and his leader. He will be yours,
faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

Thank you all. I was with the impression that they know they have a family somewhere and they might miss them.

I think they remeber their previous owners when they see them. Erns saw his last year and went silly.
He played with Kassa, but don't think he knew her. He missed Kass when she went and also missed Gems, but not sure for how long they do.

Fascinating and would love to know.

You're thinking they think like people.
