    DefaultLabrador/Rottweiler cross goes roofing !

BBC News - Axel the dog is thatcher's rooftop companion

A thatcher's seven stone rescue dog goes everywhere he goes - even up on rooftops when he is at work thatching.
Axel has to be carried up and down the ladders, but both owner and dog seem perfectly happy with the arrangement.

    Amazing!

And I have to add, thatching looks like a TOUGH JOB. But wow, does it look neat!

They sometimes put features on the ridge - like corn dollies !

He should put a corn Labrador on all of his ridges !

Great story, and what a strong man to be lugging him up and down the ladder. Too bad he couldn't teach him to climb the ladder. 7 stone approx 100lbs?

That's a wonderful story. The thatching does look amazing. The thatching itself seemed to be several inches thick. What is the foundation?

Just softwood rafters and battens to support the straw, and reed spikes to hold the thatch in place.

Some people put a breathable fabric underneath but it's not strictly required although it does keep the bugs out of the loft space.
