Defaultdo they need beds in summer?

Since I got the crate for my puppy I used to have a thin blanket on the crates floor panel for her to sleep. Now I want to buy her a small bed for the crate but I heard that in summer they like to sleep on the floor because it's much cooler that a bed. For now she sleeps in the crate on the plastic floor. I have removed the blanket because it getting hot these days.. summer is coming. Because I feel sorry for her sleeping on the crates floor panel and I want her to be more comfrotable I'm wondering if there are beds that are suitable for summer.

    thanx.

i never paid attention to temperature - I throw in blanket and (or) a dog bed in the crate (if the dog isn't chewing on it). We get cold winters and warm summers here but that never changed what I put in the crate.

I always put in a blanket. If they do not want it, my ogs typically will bunch it unto one side, using it as a pillow. There are also a variety of cooling mats that can be used, but you need to be sure that your pup does not chew it. Some are as simple as an "waterbed" type thing and others have "beads" that soak up water and remain cool.

I have to agree with what Tanya & Belles Mom have said. Leave the blanket in there, if you pup gets too warm he'll likely push into a corner.

Lexi, is not crated, but does have a dog bed. There are plenty of times in the summer when I hear her get up in the middle of the night & move to the floor because she is too warm. I figure, she'll sleep when & how she is comfortable.

I haven't put a blanket in Rookie's crate since he was like 6 months old. He always pushed them out of the way anyways so I saw it as pointless.

I will do a search for some dog blankets then. The one she has now is very thin. I'll try to find a good quality blanket.

    Thank
    you all.

If I put a blanket in Diesel's crate he will just eat it! That's the only place he'd do that. He's not crated anymore, but he often goes in to nap & it's the only place he will lay on his back with all four paws in the air -- on the hard surface of the crate, so I guess he doesn't mind!

Zoe has a fleece bed that used to fit her crate. Someone told me to have something soft for her hips. Don't know how true that is.
Now she's crateless so she has a nice foam bed with the fleece on it, and to keep her cooler, a cotton sheet folded on the top.

I agree with the others. If they don't like it they bunch it up.
Ernie has a crate bed made from foam and sheepskin on top. He loves it no matter how hot or cold it is.

Because he has bad hips his bed is off the floor with a small mattress and sheepskin over his magnetic sleep mat. This never changes all year round. Tessa has a cotton sheet on hers for her allergies.

In their kennels Erns has sheepskin and Tessa some blankets we no longer use. They are easy to wash.
