Defaultgot a whiner on my hands......

Well I have a guy who is almost 11 weeks and he whines a lot. Any tips on how to stop this annoying habit? He does when he chews on toys.....when he sees you and he hasn't in awhile....just because he can. I will admit the longer we have had him he is doing it less. At first I figured he was missing his litter but I am afraid of this keeps up it will become a learned behavior. So anything would be welcome

As much as you would like to comfort him when he does it, just ignore him and it will stop when he realizes it's not getting him anywhere. When he stops, then play with him and give him attention.

DITTO She has the best advice here. It is he same with jumping on you. Turn your back and ignore the dog. Do this enough time and they soon learn not to jump on you as no reward in it. Simaler thing when you play with your dog. If it puts to much pressure on you with a play bite, you say owwww in a pained voice and walk away do not play. Enough times of that and they learn to stop it as they want your attention. It is a matter of rewarding good behaviour not bad. Best wishes !

My Buddy did that a lot when I first got him, but when I ignore the sounds and rewarded silence he learned pretty quickly.

Thank you amazongold I am working on the ignore but it sure isn't easy. I think I need to train myself to be quiet. Lol. It is an automatic response for me to say quiet drake. Dogs are like human kids....always teaching me something.

Never knew how much fun a lab would be until I owned one. Can't imagine my life without them.
