Chris is going to Australia for 2 weeks for work. She was having trouble getting into JL and asked me to post an update on Tess for her. Here goes:
Tessa is home.
The vets aren't sure what is going on. Her thyroid level is higher, and she has a heart murmer. Her lungs, kidneys and liver are good so that is great.
They think it may be the Prednisone that is making her thyroid levels higher,so they are taking her off Pred and on another drug to slowly decrease the steroids. She is seeing a specialist in 6 weeks and needs to be off all meds for a month. She is to be kept quiet for 2 weeks.
Being off steroids her allergies will go nuts as we have been trying to decrease the Pred for 4 weeks and can't.
While she off all meds they are also going to do allergy testing and desensitising. The vet says 2% of dogs can't be treated which will mean long term Pred or other steroid, which could be a problem. We will face that when or if we get to it.
I am sure things are done differently in the USA, but she has the best vet here and now under the Vet Teaching Hospital so for now we just have to wait and see.
They also took a small lump off her belly and are sure it is benign, but have sent for tests. He said they did some fairly deep skin scrapings and she was a bit sore last night, but good today.
Garry and my sons fiance who is a vet nurse are looking after them while I am away and Tess should be fine until I come back.

Thanks for posting an update on Tessa, Jeanne. Continued good thoughts for Tessa.
Thanks for the update; I was illogically looking for one. Illogically because Chris posted she was leaving for Aus.
Poor Tessa, hope she feels better soon.
Thanks for the update. We have been worried. I am glad Tess is home. I wonder if the prednisone could be causing the symptoms....it can cause weird things to happen with long time use.

Thanx for the update.
If dogs do not go to heaven, then I prefer to follow them where they go.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop, tell her we are thinking of them.
