We went swimming yesterday at the river..great day! I had to leave for class at 5 pm, Duke was fine. DH came home and called me and said Duke was acting strange chasing his tail and licking it. We looked for thorns, etc. NOTHING. This morning DH left for work and woke me up saying that he pulled on Duke's tail a little and he yelped. He said he thinks it's broken. I realize now too it looks bent and he's not wagging it. The vet opens at 8 am, so I will be calling asap. I feel so bad for him!

Oh no. Could it be cold tail? Snicks gets that after swimming in the lake sometimes. When she does, her tail is held limp at a funny angle and she's very sensitive. She'll growl if you get too close to her.
Hope Duke is feeling better real soon!

Sounds like cold tail - search here and you'll find some great info - hope that's all it is!
Sounds like cold tail to me!
Lexi developed it once, after I had bathed her. They look really pathetic, but it everything is right a rain in a few days. I think you can give them some pain reliever or anti-inflammatory to help things along.
My pretty girl, Lexi!
Sounds like cold tail. Jenica had it once after swimming and she was pretty miserable for a couple of days, but then returned back to normal.
Sounds like Cold Tail to me. Oakley has had it twice.
Cold Tail. Not really worth a vet visit. It will improve with time. They do look pathetic while they have it and are clearly uncomfortable, but it will heal on it's own. Don't be surprised if your vet has not heard of it.

Sam has had it, too. You don't realize just how much they wag until they can't. Cold tail is scary, but it goes away.
