I'm just wondering how often others think it's necessary to use de-worming meds. FYI - We live in an area where heartworm isn't an issue, so no need to worm because of that.
My vet is recommending monthly (he used to recommend every 3 - 6 months, but for some reason changed that to every month). Dee's had a total of about 3 fleas in 7 years......so fleas really aren't an issue. Our previous dog had a very sensitive stomach and I just used to get her stool checked out occasionally. In 17 years she never had worms detected. That said, Dee does pick up sticks when out for her walks.....though she is not at all inclined to eat/pick-up anything gross.
We use Interceptor Flavor Tabs when we do worm.......which isn't monthly because I feel that's too often for her. I know that awhile back there was a post regarding this product and it possibly not being readily available (quality control issue at the factory and factory temporarily closing), but my vet as of a couple of weeks ago hadn't had any problem getting it in. Does anyone know what's happening with that? Are others still using this product? TIA.
I use heart worm meds about every 45 days or so. Other than that, I have only treated for tapeworms once in 13 years. the heart worm meds I think "takes care of" some of the other worms.

I only worm for symptoms. I don't believe in worming on a regular basis unless the dog needs it.

i never wormed unless there was something there, and there hasnt been (my dogs were not puppies when i got them).
I give my heartworm preventative every 45 days since the lifecycle of the microfilaria is 60 days. I give Ivermec at a normal dose so it doesn't take care of intestinal worms. IF my dogs need to be wormed, I worm with Panacur.

I use Interceptor every 45 days for heartworm. I only treat for other worms if there are symptoms. Abby was our only lab that got worms & it was after eating some dead animal in the woods.
I give Interceptor once a month to both boys and thus far haven't had any symptoms or issues.
We don't have heart worm so not a problem for me. Worming I do if symtons arise or with Tessa being a new dog and not looked after I did all 3 for a couple of months.
