DefaultLong time no (lab) chat... come bearing bad news.

    Hi all,

I know its been a very long time since I've been here. Call me a (un)fairweather friend... but I just hopped on here to do some research as our CoCo (who is now 6yo) has a bad CCL tear.

If any of you recall, she had a freak accident two summers ago (Fibrocartilaginous Embolism) that left her temporarily paralyzed in her back legs, but with therapy and lots of dedication by my hubby she came back to I would guess 90% (a miracle really, considering the state she was in!). Her back left leg never came back fully, there was a slight limp... and so perhaps due to over-compensating she badly tour her back right CCL.

So we're looking at extra-capsular repair and follow-up laser therapies with our vet (that's his recommendation, and we love him). I'm here doing some searching/researching through threads to get some info.

I appreciate any insight, thoughts or just hello's you might have for us in the meantime!
    ~Jo & CoCo

Raven had this surgery done in September 2011. She never had a sudden limp so we believe she had been living with a torn CCL for a few months at least. They say it will usually take a year to get back to normal. We are at 6 months and she limps after she runs or jumps. The hardest part is keeping them quiet and not a lot of activity for a while. Raven actually walked on hers the day after the surgery (she stayed overnight at the vets). We built a ramp to get her in and out of our house, just 3 steps but she couldn't do it. By two weeks though, we were able to do short walks around the yard and gradually build up. Rehab is important and sounds like you have experience with that. Good luck, prayers for Coco!

JO!!!!! Thought of you a lot over the years, wondering where you went! So sorry to hear about CoCo, lots of prayers from here. Maybe check Laura's side (kelrobin.com) under "articles" to see if she has any info.

I am embarrassed to say, I don't remember your sons name. Ben? How is he? He must be all grown up by now!

Thanks, the thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated! I realize our situation is very common, so I am happy that there is plenty of information available here as well as others' stories and experiences with this type of injury!

Amy, good memory! Yes, our son is Ben and he will be 5 soon (starting school next year!). I am currently off on maternity leave with our 8 month old daughter, Madelyn, who is SUCH a good baby. We are blessed, even with these minor setbacks to our family's health and well-being!
