    DefaultAlways remember the magic words

When i got home this afternoon from work I found Jack laying on his side facing the door next to Buddy's crate. Whiny Woof Buddy was sitting in his crate looking glum. Usually he is singing "We've gotta get out of this place" at the top of his lungs but not today. All was silent. Jack's eye was open, but he did not blink, nor did he move. Not good. I got closer and started talking to him. A feeble thump of the tail. No other movement. I let Buddy out of the crate and he sniffed Jack. Oh boy. Pinched nerves? Slipped disc? Paralyzed? Stroke?

Then I remembered the magic words:

    "Wanna Cookie?"

He got to his feet and escorted me directly to the cookie box without passing go (or gas).

When I first moved to Virginia Wife and the dogs stayed behind in Iowa. I had been the caregiver so the dogs were not real responsive to come when called. She who must be obeyed gets very frustrated when she would tell the dogs to come only to have them interpret the meaning to be take your time, futz all you want. One time she got so frustrated she yelled COOKIE! and almost got knocked over in the stampede. Whenever she needed instant recall she would say Cookie and have very attentive dogs at her feet.

I am glad I remembered the magic words. Tonight there was no stampede but it would have been difficult to stop.

Yes Cookie works here too. I feel bad that I have to stoop to that but it works. Liver to get his feet bathed at the door.
I guess that it is all about the results. So sorry that you had that scare.

Dear, dear Jack. I'm glad you have a magic word.
For Paddy there were two that could rally him, even in his last days: Car and swim. BINGO!
