    DefaultNeed General Advice!

Hey all, new dog owner here. Also first time dog owner.

I posted first in the introduction area but here's the general scoop:

    Dog Name: Kobe
    Age: ~7 months
    Sex: Male
Breed: Lab, possible mix? SPCA said lab mix. We're not sure.
Us: Me and Courtney with 2 kids (11 yr boy and 8yr girl)

Got Kobe this past Sunday. Recently neutered, he's due to have stitches removed this Friday. Right now sporting the Cone of Shame until then.

Calm yet alert at the shelter, didn't bark when other activity was going on (dogs passing through, etc). Very friendly, a grinner. He passed all observation tests, but he is a bit shy.

First thing we noticed when taking him home, he outright refused to get in the car. Collar slipped off when he pulled away and he ran towards someone who was exiting the shelter. He plopped down beside her and waited while she was petting him. Volunteers helped by picking him up and putting him inside.

Got home, walked him around the house for a bit to get acclimated. Set up the crate. Put bedding in. Result. No go. Food bribe didn't work either. Left that alone as I don't want to force him in there. Ended up sleeping on the floor at the foot of the bed in the master bedroom.

Still very calm at that time. 3 days later a much different story.

    Routine as follows:
    • She takes him for a 20 min walk in the AM. Backyard relieving after.
    • She comes home, goes to work. I wake up and start my day and feed him.
    • He sits in my home office area while I work. Mostly sleeps.
    • Lunch is about a 15min walk and backyard relieving if need be
    • Rest of PM is home office sleeping at behavior teaching. He has "sit" and "stay" down. Working on "give" (when he has an object in mouth).
    • Son comes home first.
    • Courtney and daughter come home about an hour later.
    • PM walk usually happens so far.
    • Dinner, then feed him
    • Rest of night, sleep

    Observations:

    Sunday Night
    Calm
    Loves his new toys
    Eats all food given

    Monday
**NOTE** I was oblivious to feeding schedule. All I knew was the amount based on the chart of the kibble bag (4-5 cups / day). Cups I'm using 8oz measuring cups (recently heard form a friend this is not correct. **NOTE**
AM Walk - Slight pull on leash, otherwise good (Courtney observation)
Eats first meal. Placed next to crate to get him used to it.
    Sleeps in home office floor.
Lunch walk - Slack on leash for most part, sometimes gets ahead and pulls.
    Eats second meal at lunch.
Sleeps again, tricks inbetween work breaks, potty break
    Eats third meal at 3pm
Son comes home, slight jumping behavior (not full fledged, kinda like a really really short hop). They play with each other.
Courtney and daughter arrive. Puppy is now amped up.
    PM walk - Courtney
Dinner - dog 4th meal after
    Play, sleep

    Tuesday
**NOTE** Looked up food schedule. Now on 2x/day schedule **
    Day differences (me and him)
-barked for the first time at the landscapers mowing the backyard. A loud "No" from me seemed to work. Didn't bark for the rest of the hour they worked
-pulling on leash a bit more
-commands work, harder to command when exiting/entering house

After family comes home after work
    - gets super excited
    - starting to jump more. We try to correct this by not petting him and then telling him to sit.
    - barks more. barked when son came home on tuesday but stopped when recognized. barked when I came home late last night.
    - starts nipping at daughter for play. trying to correct by loud "No's" but concerned I'm not doing it the right way.
    - starts grabbing things other than toys. had a minor scare moment of him grabbing a lego piece and me trying to take it. had to bribe with a toy. Now on priority to teach "give"
    - starts jumping on couch. Loud "No's" follow but again is this correct?

    Wednesday
Scared to go in kitchen at first. Tried coaxing but not successful. Then all of a sudden not scared.
Didn't eat first meal. Somewhat eats treats (only gave a few)
sit and stay hard to enforce outside in backyard when transitioning between areas (house to backyard, vice versa, backyard to driveway *fence door*)

Any advice? I'm concerned things will get worse tonight.

    Here's some photos of him:

I say give him a month and THEN come back and let us know how he is ! He's only a baby so let him settle in first and forgive a few mistakes ! New home and operation all on the space of a few days ! Wouldn't you act up a little ? Seems that you are doing everything that you should and I'm sure that it will all come good !
