DefaultBest Breed or Mix to live with a Lab?

My boy Logan is 3 and is a lab in every sense of the word. I'm wondering what you folks think would be the best breed of dog to adopt (besides another labrador) that would be compatible with a Lab and a Lab's activity. Any ideas?

I would think that although some breeds would be better you would have to look at the overall dog. Now that everyone is getting along our 9yo Boston Terrier holds his own very well with Katie. Matter of fact she will quit playing long before he is ready. LOL I have 6 dogs, six different breeds and they all seem to pretty well mesh except for the chihuahua and he hates everyone except Tink our min pin and I think the only reason he likes her is because she has the exact same coloring (black and rust) and puts up with his crap.

haha. yeah, we should go on a dog-by-dog basis versus breed-by-breed but we have to start somewhere. i'm just trying to narrow it down. he has buddies of all mixes and breeds. we really like chessies, anatolian shepherds, german shepherds, swiss mountain dogs, rhodesian ridgebacks, newfies, great pyrenees, dobermans...mainly big dogs.

I cannot wait until the day I can add a Papillon to my mix!!! IMO they are the next best thing to Labs.

yeah, i said other than a lab

    i'd have 100 labs if i could.

and i used the word adopt, so i plan on going to a shelter/pound to rescue the guy...he definitely doesn't have to be a purebred dog. have you seen the movie "year of the dog?" well everytime i visit a shelter, i react like she did.

paps are cute, but we have to go bigger! 60 lbs and up!

I would go to the shelter and see what's there.. check out local rescue groups, see who is there, what are their stories... it's not hard to fall in love with dogs if you aren't looking for anything in particular! Mutts are great, too!

Agree! My best friend and heart dog for 14 years was a Papillon. I can't wait to have another some day.

Sit down and make a list of what you want in a second dog. Size, age range, male/female, etc and take that as your starting place. Go to pet finders and start there and see what all it brings up. I am sure you will find a wonderful new brother/sister for Logan.

Labradors are so great they get along with everyone. I have four different breeds and they all get along.
